A Perfect Day (Ribac/Schwabe)

lyrics

A hot day in late august. There was a big hairy
spider on the seat close to me. Terrified me. When
I noticed it I nearly fainted. But he just took it with
two hands and gently put it down. The spider
raced to a crack in the floor and disappeared.

The car was quick
And moving on
To Liberation Square.
The High Street then
A shopping mall
The Romans fought their battles there.
Unforeseen stop
Construction zone
Exhaling putrid smell.
He left the bus, began to walk
Inside the inner belt.

Now downtown,
He was amazed
By those shimm’ring facades
The proudness of the high-grade steel
The gleaming endless floors
Brick factories, lov’ly restored
Privat rooftop access
Authentic lofts
Havens of comfort
And a bit picturesque.

Refrain:
Dazzling vistas
The citadel
The narrow houses afar
Parading tourists
The coffee-shops
Signs for a wildlife park
The old cloth mill
Half in ruins
Down by the riverside,
The TV tower
Glows in the sunshine
Bright.

The breeze is soft and in the air
A light announce of spring,
Incredible to be here now.
On such a perfect day.
It looks like everything
Could help him to forget
And let him start again.

He took his rucksack
And his cardboard.
He just sat quietly
On the ground.
Surrounded by
Construction rubble
And a bit picturesque.
